V – a story of angels and demons [Ch. 6 The Sleeping Prince], by壞女人Vanessa glances at the full silver moon in the sky. It is time. She spreads her grey wings, with a big flap, she surges into the air and lands quietly on her neighbours balcony. She looks into his room through the glass and sees him sleeping soundly with his back facing the moon. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, walking through the sliding door into his room, Carlos’s last sentence of mockery rings in her ears. You are not going to be a big disappointment like your sister, are you? She shakes her head. NO! She is better than her sister, she cannot fail! Vanessa holds out her left hand in front of her and watches a dagger made of black crystal appear on her palm. She grasps tightly at the weapon and looks at David’s sleeping form. Just one stab on his heart and the dagger will absorb all his dreams and hopes, and he’ll be nothing but a zombie to Lord Hades, another servant to the underworld. She slowly reaches to pull down his blanket, she hasn’t seen it coming when the person under the blanket makes a quick move and throws the blanket over her head. The blanket slips to the floor and Vanessa finds herself looking into a pair of cold, green eyes that do not belong to David Miller. “Remember me, Vanessa? “You’re… You’re…” she swallows hard, “Sebastien.” “I’m glad my face rings a bell,” Sebastien puts a hand into his jeans pocket and smiles. “Where is Miller,” she growls, flipping the dagger discreetly in her hand. “I wouldn’t throw that at me if I were you, I’m a pretty nasty piece of work when I get pissy.” “In case you haven’t noticed, Sebastien, I’m already pissy,” she shows him her canines with a snare. “I have noticed, but what you haven’t noticed is – I’m not pissy.” He appears right in front of her before she has the time to blink. “Yet,” he adds, and shows her the crystal dagger in his hand with a smirk. “How did you…” her eyes widen as she looks at the dagger in her hand a second ago. “Trade secret,” he winks and walks away from her. Recovered from her shock, she grabs his wrist. “Don’t make me ask you again, where is Miller?” “Or else what?” Sebastien turns to look at her and raises an arrogant eyebrow, “Punch me? Mademoiselle, you know you don’t stand a chance.” “Indeed she doesn’t,” another tall figure appears in the room behind Vanessa, “But I’m not so sure about us, Sebastien.” “Urs… she wants David, you’re not going to let her turn him into a zombie!” he glares at the ever handsome Swiss, “and I’m not going to let you turn him into one either.” Urs tilts his head to one side as if he’s weighing his options. “Let me think,” he grins, “and the answer is No.” “I’ll pretend tonight never happened if you leave now,” Sebastien closes his eyes and rubs his temples. “Did you not hear what I said, I said No, and according to the Oxford dictionary, it means…” “STOP!” Sebastien grumbles, “I hate it when you do that.” “Old habits die hard,” he smiles. “For the sake of old times, Urs, please don’t do this.” “What do you think can come out all of this!” Urs asks, “No matter what we do or don’t do, we’ll never be able to be what we were again! Never!” “You don’t know that, but don’t start destroying one another, you’ll regret it.” There is a pregnant pause as Urs closes his eyes to control his frustration. “Very well,” he says eventually. “He’ll not be so lucky next time.” “I’ll make sure he is,” Sebastien replies coldly. “Now get your filthy hands off my intended.” Sebastien and Vanessa stare at him in absolutely surprise. “Lord Hades has accepted my request for Vanessa’s hand in marriage.” “But how about…” Sebastien shakes his head, Urs and Caprice were two people very much in love in their mortal lives. “She condemned me herself, remember?” Urs takes Vanessa’s hand while still looking at Sebastien with much hostility, “There is no more “us” since that moment on.” “But you still love her,” Sebastien looks cautiously at Vanessa, who has a pained but confused look on her face, “Don’t break someone else’s heart Urs.” “Demons don’t have hearts!” he roars, and disappears into the night with her. Sebastien knows everything has just barely begun. The en-suite bathroom door opens, and David walks out into his bedroom. “They’re gone,” he says, looking at the sky through the sliding doors. “Yes, your highness,” Sebastien nods his head, “It’s time to retire, Sir.” David waves his hand impatiently in the air. “Come on Sebastien, you know I hate it when you address me like that. I’m still David.” “And the Prince of Homo-sapiens,” he reminds him. “Hey, I wasn’t the one who decided to regain my memory,” he sulks. “Your father told me to wake you up when the time is right. How else can I get you to get your lazy butt up from the bed?” “Are you sure my father meant ‘wake up my memories’ instead of, you know, waking me up… literally?” The question earns him an annoyed stare from his friend. “Alright already!” David puts his arms up in the air as a sign of giving up, “What do we do now?” “We rest,” Sebastien crosses his arms in front of his chest, “I have much to tell you about in the morning.” David is already sleeping soundly as if he has never been woken up in the first place.
